On Saturday, November 2nd, 2019, Off Duty Services had the pleasure of hosting a Chili Cook-Off where all proceeds were donated to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). NLEOMF was founded in 1984 with the vision “To inspire all citizens to value law enforcement” and is dedicated to telling the story of these brave men and women while working to make it safer for those who serve.
The Memorial Fund is a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. and is home to the largest database of line-of-duty officer deaths and conducts research into officer fatality trends and issues. It is also home to the newly constructed National Law Enforcement Museum at the Motorola Solutions Foundation Building.
Additionally, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund maintains the nation’s monument to law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. They are the principal organizer of Police Week each May, host a Candlelight Vigil to honor all fallen officers and have created a program titled, Stand With Honor.
Off Duty Services is a proud national partner of the Memorial Fund and wanted to do more on the local level and for this worthy organization. ODS’ 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off was filled with over 300 attendees, live music, a silent auction with over 50 auction items, multiple police awareness activities for children, and of course, highly skilled cook-off teams. Through this fun-filled event, Off Duty Services was able to donate $20,000.00 for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
Sherry and Brett Rowley, co-founders of Off Duty Services, hand-delivered the donation check during their recent visit to the Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C. During this visit, they were also treated to a tour of the National Law Enforcement Museum which includes, law enforcement inspired exhibits, collections, research, education and a memorial wall. The museum prides itself on being an interactive experience where visitors can learn what it’s like to be a cop as well as test their knowledge and skills. The interactive activities include a Decision-Making Training Simulator, a 9-1-1 Emergency Ops Dispatch Experience, Immersive Forensics and Evidence Gathering Interactives, and much more.
Off Duty Services extends a heartfelt thank you to the event sponsors, silent auction donors, cook-off teams, attendees and volunteers whose hard work and generosity made the event possible. It was Off Duty Services’ mission to have the City of Katy leave the event with a better understanding of law enforcement and the sacrifice they make daily and ODS’ is confident in saying that mission was completed. Off Duty Services is thankful for this year’s support and is excited to continue this annual tradition.
